Applied Team Goes Camping!by Priya Menon
The Applied team had a rendezvous with nature and its captivating beauty on their one day camping trip to Kulan Sonmarg in Kashmir, India.
Kashmir is known as the ‘Paradise on Earth’ and has a backdrop of three mountain ranges – the Himalayas- Karakoram, Zanaskar and Pir Panjal, running from northwest to northeast. These snow-capped ranges make Kashmir look like a picture straight out of a fairytale. Dazzling rivers, serene lakes, splendid gardens, flowering meadows are some of the features which make Kashmir valley so beautiful.
Starting from Sopore, the Applied team drove down to Kulan, enjoying the mesmerizing beauty of poplar trees in the Sindh valley to reach Kulan Wilderness camping site by evening.
After a brief trip to the surrounding forest, rains forced them to enjoy the indoor arrangements and amenities of this camp site.
Morning saw our team visit Sonmarg and the Thajiwas glacier. The word, Sonmarg, means ‘ meadow of gold ‘ and this captivating meadow is surrounded by snowy mountains against an azure sky with river Sindh meandering along. The meadow is about 2800 m above sea level and the team members enjoyed playing a cricket match here!
The team could not have come back without a trip to Thajiwas glacier which is one of the major tourist attractions of Sonmarg in Summer.
With pony rides, dirt biking, and beauty all around, the team desired for more! The camping trip was awesome and a perfect weekend getaway to unwind and rejuvenate!!
