Six Steps to be a More Productive Software Developerby Yaseen Dar
Being more productive is a dream of every software developer. Productivity actually involves proper utilization of time. According to Joseph B. Wirthlin.
Each minute is a little thing, and yet, with respect to our personal productivity, to manage the minute is the secret of success.
And as Paul J. Meyer so beautifully expressed, productivity is a proper commitment to your work.
Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.
Let us take a look at some of the disciplines that one can inculcate for more productivity.
Steps to be more productive at work
1. Proper planning and prioritizing tasks
Proper planning and prioritizing is the most important step for being more productive. It involves collection of tasks and organizing and identifying them as urgent, important and less important, it also involves organizing tasks as per their time and effort and making a checklist of all the tasks.
2. Analyzing and taking easy tasks first
Task analysis involves breaking down of a difficult task into simpler tasks. Taking easy tasks first and finishing them increases your inner confidence level and makes you feel productive.
3. Focus and avoid distractions
Proper concentration and focus on a given task will always help in finishing that task on given time. Distractions don’t allow to attain proper concentration which results in loss of focus during work.
4. Stop multitasking
In order to get the task done on time a developer should completely focus on that task as human brain is not good at multitasking and cannot fully focus when multitasking. People take longer time to complete tasks and are predisposed to error, when people attempt to complete many tasks at one time.
5. Avoid social networking sites during work.
Avoiding social media like “Facebook, Whatsapp” during work will result in proper concentration and focus on your work.
6. Taking breaks.
Brain can only focus continuously for a limited amount of time so taking breaks during work relaxes your mind.
So keep these in mind and you will notice how much more easier it is to get things done!
